Geography

At St George’s Catholic Primary School, we inspire a curiosity and fascination about the world and its people. The aim is to equip children with an understanding of our world, through experience, investigation and learning from secondary sources. Geography helps children to gain a greater understanding of the ways of life and cultures of people in other places. This will help to enable children to take responsibility for their role in society and to develop a caring attitude towards others, animals and plants in our environment.

Our aim is to fulfil the requirements of the National Curriculum for Geography by gaining Locational and Place Knowledge, studying Human and Physical geography using Geographical Skills and fieldwork. Children study their local area and contrasting places in the United Kingdom and other parts of the world.

The aims of our Geography curriculum are to develop pupils who:

  • Are exposed to a rich and balanced curriculum to inspire pupils with a curiosity and fascination about God’s world and its people that will remain with them for the rest of their lives.

  • Will be equipped with knowledge about a range of places, people, resources and natural and human environments, together with a good understanding of the Earth’s key physical and human processes.

  • With their growing knowledge about the world should help them to deepen their understanding of the interaction between physical and human processes.

  • From EYFS up to the end of KS2, will be taught various geographical terms both in our local area and worldwide and graphic skills, including how to use, draw and interpret maps.
