Welcome to Year 5 where we will help your children start to become more independent, academically and socially, ready for the challenges and responsibilities of Year 6!
Year 5 Trip - Hill End!
What a trip we had! The class were exceptional and all feedback from adults whilst we were away was very positive.
Day 1 -
We arrived and were able to get stuck straight in to map and orienteering skills work. After lunch, we had some competitions to see who could use their orienteering skills to explore the massive Hill End site. After lunch, we were able to discover more of the beautiful site we were staying on and learnt lots of different skills along the way.
We then made our way up to the dormitories and had some chilled time in the sun. Before the BBQ began, we played rounders as a class and then had some great fun waiting for the campfire session, where we learnt some new games that we will be playing back at school.
The campfire gave us all a chance for us all to relax before bed and enjoy some of our snacks.
Day 2 -
The morning was more survival skills, where we built shelters, started our own fires and some of us even got drenched by 'Storm Kavanagh'. After a fun walk back to base trying to find grass snakes and more, we were able to each our packed lunches and get on the coach home.
Quotes from the children.
'This is too good to be true.'
'Woah, this is better than heaven.'
'I am so proud of myself for being away from home.'
It really was a time to remember for all of us. A big well done again to all children, they had great fund and were brilliant role models for what our great school has to offer.
Please enjoy the photos below to show you what we got up to.
Our class saint is St Vincent de Paul who was born in France in 1581 and spent his life preaching missions to and providing relief to the poor. He established hospitals, he founded the Congregation of Priests of the Mission and the Sisters of Charity. He died in 1660 and was canonized by Pope Clement XII in 1737. His feast day is celebrated on 27th September.
The Year 5 Curriculum overview can be found under the 'Curriculum tab' on the school website.
